Car Hire in Menorca Without a Credit Card

At Poppy Cars you can book your car with a debit card, and nothing is blocked on it, not when you book and not when you collect the car. Fully comprehensive insurance with zero excess is already in the price, so there’s no deposit to hold and nothing to sort out at a desk when you land.

Why most companies ask for a credit card

Many car hire companies hold a deposit of several hundred euros on a credit card for the whole trip, in case of damage or fuel. That money isn’t available to you while you’re on holiday, it can take days to be released, and a debit card usually won’t do. The other route they offer is to sell you extra cover at the desk to reduce the deposit, which is how a cheap headline price becomes an expensive one.

What you need on the day

Your driving licence and your passport or national ID card. The card you paid with isn’t needed for a deposit, because there isn’t one. If you’re not sure your licence is valid in Spain, read what you need to hire a car in Menorca.

Picking the car up at the airport

Most of our customers choose Self Service: a few minutes before your pick-up time we send you a WhatsApp with the bay in Parking 1, the instructions to open the car and a link to sign the agreement on your phone. Can I really hire a car with a debit card?

Yes. You pay with it when you book, and that’s all it’s used for.

Will anything be charged at the end?

Not for insurance, mileage or cleaning. Fuel is full-to-full, so if you bring the car back full there’s nothing to pay.

Do you charge for child seats?

Yes, as an extra you add when you book: €4 a day for a booster (with or without a backrest) and €6 a day for a child seat for children up to 18 kg, with a maximum of €48 per seat for the whole rental.
